Women Gathering: A Literature Review is a timely piece of research. Drought, frost and fire are taking their toll on our farming families and their struggle will be inevitably shared by all the community. Women need the support and friendship of other women more than ever before. Through paid work, volunteering, childrearing and home duties rural women continually give of themselves to their families and to the community, often to the neglect of their own physical and mental health and wellbeing. Sally writes “rural women carry unique and heavy burdens and these burdens are only further pronounced when women carry them in secret and alone”.
The three keys to gathering are:
Gather together no matter how hard times may get.
Ask "Who's not here?" and contact them.
Remember confidences - no telling someone elses story.
