NILS - No Interest Loans Scheme

What is NILS?
The No Interest Loan Scheme provides interest free loans for women on low income.

The two schemes offered at Women’s Health Goulburn North East are community based programs that enable women to access credit for the purchase of goods and services.

How does it work?
When a borrower makes a repayment to a NILS program, funds are then available as a loan for another woman in the community. This is called "circular community credit" and is a real demonstration of the community in action.

Scheme 1 - DV NILS
For women having exited Domestic Violence in the whole of Hume region

Who is eligible?
Women who:

  • Are living within the HUME region who have experienced domestic violence in the past 6-12 months.
  • Are willing to be in contact with appropriate support service
  • Are on a low income
  • Are willing to attend a session on developing financial confidence and understanding

Up to $2000 to be repaid over 12 months to 2 years

Scheme 2 - General NILS
For women on low incomes in the whole of the Hume region

Who is eligible?
Women who:

  • Live within the Hume region and have done so for at least six months.
  • Are on a low income
  • Are interested in developing financial confidence and understanding and willing to participate in at least one financial literacy community information session in their loan repayment period.

Up to $2000 to be repaid over 12 months to 2 years

Information Release – To be completed by applicant if another agency has referred applicant to the NILS program and is assisting the applicant to apply for the loan
