'Tools for Change' was a mentoring project run by WHGNE from 2010-2013 aimed at increasing the financial confidence and capability of women leaving domestic violence.

It was preceded by Common Cents and The Domestic Violence NILS program within the organisation. In supporting women to regain or develop their financial skills, Tools for Change aimed to reduce the number of women and their children returning to violence or becoming homeless.

'Tools for Change' also acknowledged the need for a multi-layered response to the journey of women exiting violence with low financial confidence. This project developed; a mentor project training package, Rural Financial Counsellor domestic and family violence resources in response to a sector needs survey as well as discrete tools development in response to tools of value within the mentor training and mentee uptake.

Tools For Change Program Package

The Tools for Change mentoring approach offers a long-term, respectful, relationship-based process of information exchange that views the women as experts of their own lives and as engaged, committed women wanting to make a change to their finances. It acknowledges their past, the present barriers and constraints, and the knowledge and experience they seek. This package includes a mentor training package, facilitator guide, powerpoint presentation, MP3 audio, and Literature review.
